Question

In the verification of Ohm's law, what is observed when the ratio of potential difference and current (V/I) is calculated for all the readings? What do you conclude?

Solution

According to Ohm's law for a conductor under constant temperature, the current flowing between two points is directly proportional to the potential difference between the points.

The formula for Ohm's law is as follows

V=IRVI=R

Where V is the potential difference, I is current and R is the resistance.

In the verification, we observe that for all the readings of V and I, the ratio VI is constant.

Since the ratio of V and I is equal to the resistance of the material and from the above observation VI=constant, we conclude that a given conductor has a constant value of resistance.
