In this experiment, how does KOH affect the process of photosynthesis in the plant kept in bell jar ?
Inhibits CO2 intake by plant.
Stops the glucose/ starch production in leaves.
KOH or Potassium hydroxide is an absorbent of carbon dioxide. In the closed jar, entire carbon dioxide is absorbed by KOH and also there is no availability from surroundings. This does not allow production of glucose /starch as glucose is produced by reduction of carbon dioxide during the process of photosynthesis.
