KOH or Potassium hydroxide is an absorbent of carbon dioxide. In the closed jar, entire carbon dioxide is absorbed by KOH and also there is no availability from surroundings. This does not allow production of glucose /starch as glucose is produced by reduction of carbon dioxide during the process of photosynthesis.
