In this figure, ABCD is a trapezium in which AB || DC and AB = 3DC. Determine the ratio of the areas of AOB and COD.

In triangle AOB and COD, we have

AOB=COD [Vertically opposite angles]

And, OAB=OCD [Alternate angles]

So, by AA-criterion of similarity, we have

AOB ~ COD

area of AOBarea of COD=(AB)2(DC)2

area of AOBarea of COD=(3DC)2DC2=91

Hence, Area (AOB ) : Area (COD) = 9 : 1
