no, looks are not more important than skills. Looks fade away after a certain period of time while if a person is skilled he'll always remember that skill and he can keep working. From the story, we can take the example of the snake. The snake that coiled itself on the doctor's arm, kept staring at its reflection in the mirror for a long time, enjoying its beauty and appreciating its form. The snake was so much engrossed in its beauty that it forgot as to why it had come to the author's house. Hence, beauty is not important.
