Question

In towns and cities, generally, bore wells have to be dug very deep to get water as compared to bore wells dug in villages. Give suitable reasons

Solution

  • In cities and towns, the ground surface is covered with concrete hence rainwater cannot percolate deep into the ground.

  • This results in the decrease in groundwater levels, as groundwater cannot be refilled easily.

  • In villages most of the ground surface consists of soil and less concrete constructions.

  • Thus, bore wells do not have to be dug as deep as that required in cities.
