DNA is a double stranded structure of which one strand act as template or anticoding strand whereas another one acts as the coding strand. Template strand is used by RNA polymerase to combine complementary bases during RNA transcription, as it moves from 3’ – 5’ direction.
The second strand of the DNA involved in the transcription process is known as coding strand, which is also known as sense strand. The name coding strand is because the RNA which is going to be transcribed will have the same sequence as that of coding sequence only instead of Thymine (T), Uracil (U) would be there.
