Question

In tropical rain forests, the canopy is thick and plants growing
below receive filtered light. How are they able to carry out photosynthesis ?

Solution

Photosynthesis in tropical rainforests

The plants that receive filtered light have evolved themselves to perform photosynthesis in low light conditions.
They carry out photosynthesis in low light intensity due to the presence of more carotenoid and xanthophyll pigments.
These pigments absorb radiation of different wavelengths which enable the utilisation of a wider range of wavelengths of incoming light for photosynthesis.
