Ultrasonography is a non-invasive technique which uses ultrasound waves for producing images of internal body parts. Ultrasound is sound of high frequency of about 20 kHz and is beyond human hearing power. Ultrasound waves are produced by the piezoelectric effect when an electric potential is applied to the crystals of lead zirconate. The technique is useful in diagnosing the diseases of the brain, kidney stones, gallstones, uterus, fallopian tubes etc.
