(1) Since UD is the median of ∆UVW, D is the mid-point of seg VW. (As median is the line segment joining any vertex of a triangle to the mid-point of its opposite sides)

(2) Length of VD = 5cm (given)
We know that D is the mid-point of VW.
∴ VD = DW = $\frac{1}{2}\left(\mathrm{VW}\right)$
∴ 5 cm = DW =$\frac{1}{2}\left(\mathrm{VW}\right)$
∴ $\frac{1}{2}\left(\mathrm{VW}\right)$= 5 cm
∴ VW = 5 × 2 cm = 10 cm
