Question

In what condition the distance covered is equal to the magnitude of the displacement of the particle?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The distance between any two points is the total length of the path.
  2. The direct length between any two points measured along the shortest path between them is known as displacement.
  3. When an object goes in a fixed direction in a straight line without turning back, its displacement and distance magnitude are always equal.

Hence, displacement and distance magnitude are always equal when particles travel in a straight line.
