Plaster of ParisCaSO4·12H2O has the property of absorbing water to convert into gypsum CaSO4·2H2O which is very hard and has the following uses:-

  1. For making molds for toys, ceramics, and sculptures.
  2. In bandages to support fractured bones.
  3. In labs, to make apparatus air-tight by sealing the gaps.

Therefore, this property of POP is very useful.
