Question

In what physical state will NaOH be at room temperature? Explain.

Open in App
Solution

Sodium hydroxide at room temperature:

  • At room temperature Sodium hydroxide(NaOH) is a white, odorless solid commonly known as Caustic soda.
  • It is a corrosive white crystalline solid that contains Sodium (Na+) and hydroxide (OH-) ions.
  • Sodium hydroxide readily absorbs moisture and forms aqueous solutions which mean that Sodium hydroxide as a solid will lose its strength with time and becomes largely inert.

Therefore, NaOH will be a solid at room temperature.
