Let the line segment formed by joining the points (2,2,5) and (1,−3,6) is divided by the YZ plane in the ratio k:1 at the point P, then the co-ordinates of P are
(k+2k+1,−3k+2k+1,6k+5k+1)
But P lies in the YZ plane,
∴x−co-ordinate is zero
⇒k+2k+1=0
⇒k+2=0
⇒k=−2
