In what respect does the construction on a ac generator differ from dc generator

Split rings are used in DC generator and slip rings are used in AC generator.

Slip rings are used to establish constant connection between the rotating armature and the external circuit of an AC generator. When the armature is rotated in the magnetic field, slip rings ensure that the circuit does not twist as the polarity of the induced current flips.Split ring on the other hand, as the name suggests, is a ring split into two parts. This is used in case of DC generator to ensure proper contact as the coil rotates . It reverses the flow of current after every half turn thereby facilitating the coil with constant current.
