Direct interaction with the judges

The Lok Adalat does not charge court fees and even if a nominal court fee is charged, the amount is refunded if the Lok Adalat settles the dispute. The Lok Adalat stands apart from the normal courts because of its procedural flexibility and quick resolution of disputes. Unlike normal courts, mandatory application of procedural laws like the Civil Procedure Code and the Evidence Act are not enforced here. The Adalat follows principles of natural justice. The parties to the dispute can engage in direct interaction with the judges through their counsel in the Lok Adalat. This is not something which is possible in normal courts.
