Question

In what ways is India secularism different from other democratic countrys

Open in App
Solution

In other democracies like France and the United States, secularism means that the state does not recognize any religion. In fact, in France, secularism means that the state does not even allow religious symbols in government institutions. In contrast, in India, secularism means equal respect for all religions. Hence, even though India is secular, the government of India recognizes religious holidays like Diwali, Id and Christmas. Such religious holidays do not exist in other democracies.
