DNA​​​​​​​(deoxyribonucleic acid) consists of two strands that are wrapped around each other to form a double helix. Each strand of DNA consists of repeating units known as the nucleotides. The nucleotides consists of- deoxyribose sugar, nucleotide bases(adenine, guanine, thymine and cytosine) and a phosphate group.
The functional segment of DNA is known as the gene. It is a unit of heredity.
When cell is not dividing, DNA is present as a part of chromatin(entangled mass of thread-like structures which consists of DNA and proteins).
