When some leakage of the gas takes place from the container then the volume of the container remains the same but the number of particles of hydrogen gas decreases and they start to occupy the volume of the container so interparticle distance (distance between particles) increases.

Moreover, when the volume of the container increases then the same number of particles spread in that increased volume so again the interparticle distance increases.

When hydrogen gas is added and the volume of the container is kept constant, then the distance between the particles decreases.
