Permanent dipole-dipole interaction is absent in carbon dioxide. The formula is O=C=O.
Oxygen is more electronegative in nature than Crabon. So, in this molecule, Oxygen attains partial negative charge. Whereas, Carbon attains partial positive charge. So carbon dioxide has polar bonds in it. But CO2 is linear in shape. The polarity is same on both the sides of the carbon and hence the polarity gets cancelled because of the symmetry of the bonds or molecule. The net dipole moment of CO2 is 0. Thus, carbon dioxide lacks dipole-dipole interaction because of the symmetry of the molecule.
