Autogamy is defined as the transfer of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma of the same flower. Example: Wheat consists of bisexual flowers and hence undergo autogamy.

Geitonogamy is defined as the transfer of pollen grains from
the anther to the stigma of another flower of the same plant. Example: Castor and maize have unisexual flowers but both male and female flowers are borne on the same plant hence, they can undergo geitonogamy but not autogamy.

Both autogamy and geiotonogamy are prevented in papaya because papaya is a dioecious plant which means male and female flowers are on separate plants. Therefore, it involves cross pollination.
