Solution

The correct option is B Oxidation reaction of alcohol
(a) Dehydration of alcohol involves cleavage of CO bond.
For example: At 433-443 K, Alcohols react with conc. H2SO4 to form alkenes.
CH3CH2OHHot conc. H2SO4−−−−−−−−−CH2=CH2

(b) Oxidation of alcohol 3 alcohols generally do not undergo oxidation however in the presence of KMnO4, cleavage of C-C bond takes place to give two acids in which CO bond remains uncleaved.

(c) Reduction
CH3CH2CHOLiAlH4−−−CH3CH2OH
It involves cleavage of CO bond.

(d) Reaction with phosphorus tribromide involves cleavage of COH bond.
CH3CH2OHPBr3−−CH3CH2Br

Thus, oxidation reactions of alcohol do not involve cleavage of CO bond among the given reactions. Hence correct option is (b).
