Solution
The correct option is B Umbra only
The correct answer is option A - Umbra only. On a certain new moon’s day, when the moon comes in between the sun and the earth, the moon casts its shadow on the earth. The part of Earth which lies in the umbra of the moon, the sun is not visible. Thus a total solar eclipse occurs for the umbra region on the earth. People in this umbra on the earth, the sun appears as a black circular disc with a ring of light as shown. But for people in the penumbra region of the Moon, the solar eclipse is partial. An annular solar eclipse occurs when only the tips of the umbra of the moon fall on the earth. From that point the sun appears to be completely obstructed by the moon, only the outer rim of the sun, called the corona is then visible for a short time which is known as the diamond ring. So the people in the umbra region only can experience the total solar eclipse.
