Government announces National Jute Policy 2005. In a bid to provide the much-needed thrust to the jute sector, the UPA government announced the National Jute Policy 2005 of India. The National Common Minimum Program (NCMP) of the Government, recognising the importance of jute to farmers and workers, and to the economy of jute growing states, and its special ecological importance worldwide, resolved that "the jute industry will receive a fresh impetus in all respects".
