Renal Pyramids:

  1. Kidneys are the excretory organ.
  2. A pair of kidneys is found below the ribs in the abdominal cavity.
  3. Each one is 10 to 12 cm long.
  4. The kidneys produce urine to excrete toxic substances from the blood.
  5. The kidney filters the blood.
  6. The formation of urine occurs in the renal pyramids.
  7. Renal pyramids are small structures that comprise several tubules and nephrons and it forms a part of the renal medulla.
  8. Urine passes through renal pyramids into the renal pelvis.
  9. The renal pyramid transport fluid into the kidney through the tubules present in it.
  10. This fluid then pushes away from the nephrons towards the inner structures that collect and transfer urine out of the kidney.
  11. Nephrons are the structural and functional units of the kidney.
  12. Around 10 lac neurons are found in each kidney.
