In which part of the life cycle of the silk moth is silk obtained?
iii
Silk is obtained from the cocoon of the silkworm. The silk moth follows a life cycle similar to a butterfly. Larvae or silk worms hatch from eggs laid by adults. Once the larvae have grown about 10,000 times their hatching size, they spin a cocoon of silk in order to metamorphose into an adult silk moth.
The cocoons are collected for the silk. The larvae are killed and only the silk cocoons are used to collect the silk thread.
