  1. Flame cells are present in the phylum Platyhelminthes (flatworms).
  2. Flame cells are the specialized excretory cells that help in excretion in animals.
  3. These cells work like kidneys and help in removing waste materials from the body of the animals.
  4. Flame cells are also known as solenocytes.
  5. First of all flame cells were developed as excretory cells phylum Platyhelminthes. So these most primitive types of excretory organs, are called protonephridia.
  6. These cells are irregular-shaped and hollow with pseudopodia processes.
  7. Cilia are also found in these, which keep moving all the time.
  8. These cells are found in the simplest freshwater invertebrates, including flatworms (except the turbellaria order Acoela), rotifers, and nemerteans.
