  1. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants produce food in presence of sunlight.
  2. Generally, this process occurs in leaves.
  3. Some plants carry out photosynthesis in modified plant parts like roots, stems, petioles, etc.
  4. The stem is used as the photosynthetic organ in opuntia.
  5. The stem becomes flattened, thick, and succulent and performs photosynthesis. these structures are known as phylloclade.
  6. Examples are opuntia and euphorbia.
