We know,

in I quadrant both x and y are positive,
in II quadrant x is negative and y is positive,

and in IV quadrant x is positive and y is negative.

That is, x is negative and y is positive.

Hence, the given point (x,y) lies in the IInd quadrant.

Therefore, 2 is the answer.
