In which ratio is the line segment joining points (-3,-4) and (1,-2) divided by y - axis

Equation of y axis=>
x=0
so,the line joining the given points meet the y axis at a point say (0,y)

We need to find how the line x=0 cuts those points.
let y axis divides the line segment joining the points in the ratio k:1
Then,using section formulae
equating the x coordinates,
[ (K*1)+(1*(-3))]÷(k+1)=0
=>k+(-3)=0
=>k=3

K:1=>3:1
So, the y axis divide the line joining (-3,-4) &(1,-2) in the ratio 3:1
