Black soil is generally found in the mid-southern part of India as these soil are rich in minerals such as Iron, Magnesium and Aluminium.It is found in states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. It has high water retaining capacity. Self-ploughing is a characteristic of the black soil as it develops wide cracks when dried. It swells and becomes sticky when wet and shrinks when dried.
