In which way has the study of biology helped us to control infectious diseases ?
(i) Development of diagnostic tests for detection of pathogens: Study of biology has made it easier to detect the pathogens. There are specialized biochemical and biophysical detection processes which can detect the pathogen that affected the diseased individual. This also facilitates early detection of the disease.
(ii) Better community health: Spreading of infectious diseases is controlled due to improvements in community health. The standard of community health has improved due to the study of biology.
(iii) Development of vaccines: Vaccination is presently the commonest preventive measure against infectious diseases. Vaccination develops the immune system of the individual to act against a specific infectious pathogen if it infects the individual.
(iv) Understanding the mode of infection of pathogens: Determining the life cycle and the mode of infection of pathogens helps with the development of drugs like antibiotics that can prevent the effects of pathogen.
