Indian President is the first head of the state. He is recognised as the first citizen of India and is regarded as a symbol of solidarity, unity and integrity of the nation. He also belongs to the part of Union Executive along with Vice-President, Prime Minister, Council of Ministers and Attorney-General of India.

The Constitution of India came into force on January 26, 1950, and Dr Rajendra Prasad was elected as the first constitutional head of the state, the President of India.
