Difference means the gap between 2 numbers.
Say 'A' and 'B' are two numbers.
If 'A' is bigger than 'B' then difference between A and B will be A - B.
If 'B' is bigger than 'A' then difference between A and B will be B - A.
Here, let A be 279.
On reversing the digit, we will get 972. Let 972 be equal to B.
Since B is bigger than A here, the difference will be B - A.
so, 972 - 279 = 693.
