In x class, if three students sit on bench, one student will be left. If four students sit on each bench, one bench will left. Find the number of students and number of benches in class.

let number of benches=x and students=y
if 3 students sit on each bench 1 student will be left
y=3x+1 --> equation 1

if 4 students sit on each bench one bench will be left
y=4(x-1) -->equation 2

on solving equation 1 and 2
2 x=5 , y=16

number of benches=5 and number of students=16
