Solution

The correct option is C 2 cm, 4 cm
We know that, fringe width, β=λDd

βλ1μ

When YDSE setup immersed in liquid,

The distance between central maxima and 10th maxima is,

Δy=y10y0

Δy=10λwDdλwDd

Δy=1μw[10λaDdλaDd]

Δy=1μw[y10y0]=Δyμw

Thus, the distance between both maxima will reduce to,

Δy=5232=2 cm

As the y coordinate of central maxima doesn't depend upon wavelength, therefore it will be remained same as in air.

y0=2 cm and y10=2+2=4 cm

Hence, (C) is the correct answer.
Why this question ?
Note: Position of central maxima will remain unaffected by the medium in which YDSE is performed.
