Resultant intensity at a point is given by IR=4Iocos2δ2
where δ is the phase difference and Io is the intensity of each light.
Case 1 : Path difference Δx=λ
Phase difference δ=2πλ×Δx=2πλ×λ=2π
So, resultant intensity I1=4Iocos2π=4Io=K
Case 2 : Path difference Δx=λ/3
Phase difference δ=2πλ×λ3=2π3
So, resultant intensity I2=4Io×cos2π3=K×122=K4
