Question

In Young's double slit experiment, using monochromatic light, fringes are obtained on a screen placed at some distance from the slits. If the screen is moved by 5×102m towards the slits, the change in the fringe width is 3×105m. If the distance between the two slits is 103m, calculate wavelength of the light used.

Solution

Δβ=3×105m
We know β=Dλd
β=(D5×102λ)d
β=β=(5×102λ)d
λ=(ββ)×d5×102
=3×105×1035×102
=6×107m
=6000˚A
