Solution
The correct option is A IgG Passive immunity is provided when a person is given antibodies to a disease rather than producing them through his or her own immune system. A newborn baby acquires passive immunity from its mother through the placenta.
IgG is the only class of antibody that significantly crosses the human placenta. Transfer of this maternal IgG through the placenta provides protection to the foetus as the foetus' humoral immunity is inefficient, and so in the first six months, the growing foetus contains the identical humoral immunity as that of the mother. No other class of antibodies can cross the placenta except IgG.
