Selaginella shows heterospory, as it has both microspores in microsporangium and megaspores in megasporangium. It is unique feature of Selaginella. After maturation of megagametophyte, the megasporangium wall dehisces and the megaspore wall also splits open exposing the female gametophyte. The endosporic microgametophyte falls upon the megagametophyte. It is known as incipient pollination.
