In the medieval period, India has inland (Overland) and maritime( overseas) trade relation with foreign countries. Traders from Arabia, Turkey, Syria, and Europe traded with Indian merchant communities such as Baniyas and Boharas. Overland trade with Central and West Asia was mostly in the hands of Multanis. Many of these merchants settled down in Delhi.
India had maritime trade with South-East Asia and China. Arabs were the dominant partner in India Ocean trade.
