The core social and political values of our Constitution are reflected in the Preamble which serves as the introduction to our constitution and summarizes its aims and objectives. It is the Preamble which provides for proper appreciation of our aims and goals and aspirations as embodied in the constitution.

i. It starts with We the people,which implies it we the people as a whole our country, gives ourselves this constitution, which is set of rules and regulations according to which government would function. We the people , represents that the constitution so farmed is for the people, by the people and of the people, The constitution has been framed by our representatives and is all inclusive and representatives in nature.
ii. It declares India to be a Democratic country that is government based on the will of the people, it implies government is based on popular consent and that people participate in the political process. The country can take to its credit for holding free and fair elections and provide for smooth transition.
iii. The country provides for smooth and legitimate transformation from one government to another by means of electoral competition. Elections are held after every five years allowing parties as the representative of people’s interest to compete for power and govern the country. India has a multi party system that has allowed various political parties to represent diverse interests and reach out to more and more people
iv. India is the largest democracy in the World and has based its democratic structure on the principle of Universal Adult Franchise which guarantees right to vote to all that is everyone has one vote irrespective of caste creed , religion or sex and every vote has equal value
v. India is a Republic, where the head of the state is an elected one and that there is no hereditary monarchal system.
