Culture refers to the values, beliefs and knowledge of society.
Diversity refers to the presence of different elements or characteristics.
Hence, cultural diversity is the presence of people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Cultural Diversity in India:
Religious diversity: India is a secular country where all religions are given equal treatment and people of all religions live together in harmony.
Languages: India is well known for its linguistic diversity. As per Census 2001, there are 122 major languages and 1599 other languages in India.
Festivals: People of every religion and community celebrate different festivals based on their cultural identity.
For example: Pongal, Makar Sankranti and Uttarayan are celebrated across India on the same day but with different rituals.
Food habits: Diversity in food habits is one of India’s treasures. Every region in India offers their own traditional dishes, each of which is unique in their own way.
For example: Rajasthan in the West is known for Dal Bati Churma, while Tamil Nadu in the South is famous for its Idli and Sambar.
