Let the number of matches lost be $x.$
$⟹\text{Number of matches won}=x+4\left(\text{By question}\right)$
$\therefore$Total matches played =$x+x+4=2x+4$
Since the team won ${\frac{3}{5}}^{\text{th}}$ of its matches, we have
$x+4=\frac{3}{5}(2x+4)$
$\Rightarrow 5(x+4)=3(2x+4)$
$\Rightarrow 5x+20=6x+12$
$\Rightarrow 6x-5x=20-12$
$\Rightarrow x=8$
$\therefore$ Total matches played = $2x+4$
= $16+4$
= $20$
