The correct option is A Sunlight is essential for plants to produce oxygen
Ingenhousz, demonstrated the green parts of the plants like the stems and leaves, could manufacture oxygen by using the Sun’s light.
Joseph Priestly had conducted bell-jar experiments that showed that plants released some 'factor' which was later demonstrated to be oxygen that could keep a candle burning or a living organism like a mouse alive. Without the green plant, the candle placed under the bell-jar would burn-out and could not be re-lit after a while. And the mouse kept inside the bell-jar would pass-out and eventually die.
Ingenhousz repeated these experiments in the presence of sunlight and established that green plants produce oxygen only in presence of sunlight.
