Inhaling which of these gases reduces the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood?
Haemoglobin combines with oxygen and carries it throughout the blood. But, carbon monoxide (CO) has a much higher rate of combining with the Haemoglobin as compared to oxygen. So, if CO is inhaled in excess, Haemoglobin combines with carbon monoxide instead of oxygen thereby reducing the oxygen carrying capacity of blood.
