Thyroxine and triiodothyronine are the hormones which are secreted by the thyroid gland. The thyroid hormones are formed by the attachment of the iodine to the tyrosine residue. One iodine attaches to tyrosine and forms Monoiodotyrosine (MIT) and two iodine attaches to form diiodotyrosine. One MIT combines with one DIT to form triiodothyronine. Thyroxine is formed by the combination of two DTIT.
