Solution

The correct option is C solution
We know that water has a very high dielectric constant (approx 80).
So, when an ionic compound is dissolved into water, separation of ions takes place. This process is called as dissociation. Now when the ions are free, they react with each other easily. So, C is the correct answer. Note that, ionic compounds generally have high melting/boiling points so it is difficult to convert them to liquid/gaseous state. So, A and D are not correct. Also, in the solid state, the ions of the ionic compounds are bound together with strong electrostatic forces of attraction so they do not react with each other. So, B is also incorrect.
