Electronic configuration of N &O is

N= 1s2 2s2 2p3

O = 1s2 2s2 2p4

Now, atomic radius (N) > atomic radius(O)

and we know IE α 1Atomicradius

So, IE, of N should be lesser than IE, of O.

But, half-filled p-orbitals are more stable.

Therefore, to remove an electron from N, we have to give more energy.

Therefore, IE of Nitrogen > IE, of oxygen.
