Question

Iqbal has to push a lighter box and Seema has to push a similar heavier box on the same floor. Who will have to apply a larger force and why?

Solution

Frictional force

  1. Frictional Force is the force created when two surfaces collide and slide against one another.
  2. The surface texture and the amount of effort required to bring them together have a big impact on these forces. The volume of frictional force is affected by the object's angle and position.
  3. The forces of attraction, known as adhesion, between the points of contact areas of the surfaces, which are always minutely uneven, are the primary cause of friction between objects.

Analyzing

  1. If the two surfaces are forced harder against each other, the force of friction between them will grow. As a result, pushing the heavier box will require more force than pushing the lighter one.
  2. As a result, Seema must exert more force than Iqbal. Friction is caused by the imperfections on the two surfaces in contact interlocking.
  3. The interlocking of imperfections on the surfaces of the box and the floor becomes strong when a heavy object is placed on the floor.

Hence, Seema will apply a larger force to move the box.
