Metals-

  • They are solid at room temperature. except for mercury.
  • Lustrous- they have a shiny surface.
  • Ductile- they can be drawn into wire.
  • Malleable- they can be hammered or rolled into thin sheets.
  • They are good conductors of heat and electricity.
  • Example- Sodium, magnesium, calcium, copper, gold, etc.

Iron-

  • It is readily available in the earth's crust.
  • In pure form, it is highly soft and expands quickly.
  • When warmed, It becomes hard and strong by mixing a small amount of carbon.
  • It is comparatively cheap.
  • It is from different alloys which are very useful.

Hence, Iron is the most widely used metal.
